Principal's Message

EC Parents/Guardians,

I cannot express the appreciation I have for the warm reception I received a year ago as your new principal here at East Central High School. Your and welcoming sentiment and acceptance were wonderful, and what a year it was! East Central High School remains both an A school and a 4-Star school in the state of Indiana for the outstanding opportunities we offer and rigorous preparation of our students...your children. From dual credit opportiunties through Indiana University, Vincennes University, and Ivy Tech as well as Career and Technical opportunities at the Southeastern Career Center and here on campus, to our Gold level ISSMA programs in the performing arts and our well-recognized and decorated visual arts, to our highly successfully and competitive athletic teams, EC is a school...family in which we can all take great pride. As I enter year two with you and your children, my mission continues to be to make connections, to provide the best opportunities for our students, and perhaps most importantly, to offer a safe and secure school environment where your child/student can grow and thrive as an academic and as a person.

As a servant leader, trust and communication are core values. Know that I will continue to be, readily accessible to both you and your student(s) and respectfully honest even if we don’t agree in the end. Our staff will work diligently to ensure that every student has a path to success and a niche within our walls where they feel respected, accepted, and appreciated. The following points of emphasis continue to be the basic components of every successful high school I’ve been a part of, are a focus of our School Improvement Plan, and are well defined goals within State expectations. To the best of our ability, we will:
  • Ensure a safe and secure learning environment,
  • Prioritize academic growth and success
  • Provide college and career access and exploration, and
  • Incorporate social emotional learning opportunities within a positive school culture.
It is essential as we continue the great work East Central has become known for that we focus on more consistent and clear communication between students, staff, and community regarding mission, vision, successes, hopes, and desires. We’ll also continue our attention on best-practices and alignment across content areas to ensure continued academic success and even moreso growth and improvement.

As we begin year two together in this journey, know how thankful I am to be here with your student(s), this staff, and this community. I take great pride in what we have done and what we are doing. WE ARE...EC!

Respectfully,

Tom Black
